Facebook Group Guidelines
As our Facebook group has grown, we’ve become more intentional about how we organize online. These guidelines help us stay focused, respectful, and rooted in action.

We Prioritize Strategic Action
Our Facebook group is a space for organizing and taking action. To support that goal, we ask for members’ help: before you post, think action first.
Does your post help us organize? Mobilize? Build power together?
We’re INclined to Approve
✅ Posts that promote strategic, doable actions aligned with Indivisible’s mission.
✅ Posts related to Lenawee Indivisible’s work—including photos, updates, and media coverage.
✅ Posts that inspire us to keep going—content that motivates, empowers, or re-energizes our community.
✅ Posts from trusted local voices—including leaders or organizers sharing helpful, action-focused information.
We’re Inclined to Decline
🚫 News without action. Most members are already informed—our group is for organizing.
🚫 Memes and graphics. Whether from another page or ones you’ve made yourself, drop them in our “Meme Friday” thread—not the main feed.
🚫 Posts that just vent. We understand the frustration, but rants derail our momentum.
🚫 Political hot takes. This isn’t the place to rehash 2024 or debate strategy. We’re here to act, not make predictions or assign blame.
Facebook Group Rules & Guidelines
These 12 guidelines shape how we moderate our Facebook group and help us organize more effectively online. Our goal is simple: to keep our limited attention and energy focused on what matters most—protecting democracy.
1. DO Share and Amplify Actions
We welcome posts that promote strategic, doable actions aligned with Indivisible’s mission: defending democracy from authoritarianism, electing local champions, and advancing progressive policies through nonviolent organizing. Actions should be directed, targeted, and impactful.
When sharing an action or event, please include:
- Time, date, and location
- Relevant contact info or links
- The name of the sponsoring group (must align with Lenawee Indivisible’s values)
2. DON’T Share Memes or News Articles on the Main Feed
(But DO Use Weekly Threads!)
Our attention is finite—and the opposition knows it. One of their core tactics is to flood the media with chaos to exhaust us into apathy. To stay focused and effective, we need to cut through the noise and center meaningful action.
That’s why posts on our main feed should focus on concrete ways we can protect democracy and resist authoritarianism.
We know some members enjoy sharing memes and news articles, so to make space for that without overwhelming the page, we’ll have two designated threads each week:
- “News of the Week” (posted Mondays)
- “Meme Friday” (posted Fridays)
Outside of those threads, off-topic posts—including memes, news articles, and national political analysis—will be deleted or not approved. This helps us keep our space intentional, focused, and action-driven.
3. NO Hate Speech or Bullying
Bullying and hate speech have no place here. Any degrading or harmful comments about race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender, or identity will not be tolerated—whether directed at an individual, a community, or stated more generally.
No name-calling, trolling (posting inflammatory or off-topic comments to provoke a reaction), or inappropriate language is allowed.
Our moderators can’t review every comment in real time, so if you encounter abusive behavior, please use the “Report to Admins” feature. Continued violations will result in removal from the group.
4. NO Promotions or Spam
This is a space for meaningful connection and action. Self-promotion, spam, and irrelevant links aren’t allowed. Posts that moderators determine to be spam will be removed.
5. DO Respect Everyone’s Privacy
Being part of this group requires mutual trust. Honest, authentic discussions are what make this space powerful—but they can also involve sensitive or personal topics. What’s shared in the group should stay in the group.
If it’s not public information, don’t share it outside the group—period.
6. BE Brave and Willing to Learn
We’re here to uplift progressive leaders, rebuild democracy, and resist authoritarianism through a lens of equity and anti-racism. Everyone brings different experiences, biases, and learning curves to the table—and that’s okay.
We don’t expect you to use all the “right” language on the first try. We do expect a commitment to listening, learning, and approaching unfamiliar perspectives with humility and curiosity.
7. DO Center Marginalized Voices
In discussions about racism, white supremacy, ableism, cisnormativity, sexism, classism, and other systems of oppression, it’s essential to step back, listen, and learn.
Please honor the lived experiences of people from marginalized communities and center their voices in the conversation. That means prioritizing the perspectives of those most directly affected, resisting the urge to shift the focus back to your own perspective, and being mindful of how power and privilege show up in our comments.
8. NO Insults, Name-Calling, or Personal Attacks
Disagreements happen, but personal attacks, insults, and name-calling (even toward public figures) are not allowed. Indivisible is about action, accountability, and how we build local power for progress—not tearing people down.
Posts and comments denigrating anyone will be deleted, and repeat violations will result in removal from the group.
9. DON’T Delete Posts or Comments—and No Anonymous Posts
This is a space for growth and accountability. If a fellow member points out harm, we expect you to listen, reflect, apologize, and adjust—not argue or double down.
Please don’t delete your posts or comments, as it disrupts conversation and learning.
And because anonymous posts make it harder to build trust and maintain respectful discussions, we do not allow them.
10. DO Give Friends a Heads-Up Before Inviting Them
We love welcoming new members! Before you send your friend an invite to join us, please take a second to make sure they actually want to be in the group. If they do, great! Ask them to visit our public page, where they’ll be prompted to answer the membership questions and review the group rules before being approved.
Note: Inviting more than 5 people to join the group at one time can get flagged as spam and may result in those requests being declined.
11. DO Invite Individuals, Not Organizations
Group membership is limited to individuals. Organizations (except other Indivisible chapters) are not eligible to join. To stay informed about other groups’ activities, please visit their Facebook pages.
12. DON’T Make This Harder Than It Needs to Be
We don’t use a formal strike system, but if someone consistently creates conflict, ignores group norms, or takes up excessive moderator time, we may remove them. This space is for collaboration, not disruption. Please be kind, stay focused, and help us keep this group strong.
A Few Friendly Reminders
Social media’s algorithms aren’t designed to bring out the best in people—but if we keep a few things in mind, we can make our corner of the internet one that moves us forward, together.
No name-calling or personal attacks—period.
That includes politicians, fellow members, and yes, emoji-based insults. Our group includes people across the political spectrum. While Indivisible is a progressive organization, we won’t always agree—especially during primaries—and that’s okay. Respectful disagreement is part of democracy.
Not everyone walks the same path.
Our members are involved in many forms of activism—not just electoral work. If someone is taking a different approach and hasn’t asked for feedback, scroll on by and find the lane that speaks to you.
Always choose kindness.
The people you’re replying to are real humans—neighbors you might see at our next rally or event. Remember: we’re all here because we care about our community and want a better future.
No violent language or threats.
Any post or comment promoting violence will be removed. Repeated violations or continued harmful behavior may result in permanent removal from the group.
Our moderators are volunteers.
They have full lives outside of Indivisible and can’t always approve posts right away or explain every declined submission. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
